Heelys (pronounce Heel – Ly’s) is the name of the shoe that has the nearly invisible wheel in the heel of each sole. You can pop the wheel out and store it in a pocket. The inventor is Roger Adams who grew up on wheels. Adams was a clinical psychologist. But 15 years in his career, he decided it was time for something different and came up with an idea for shoes. He wanted a shoe in which the wearer could walk, run, and jump as well as roll, spin and skid. With the culmination of 3 years of work, Heelys was launched in the USA in the year 2000.

For sporting, "Heelys" gives the illusion of gliding on a surface. Skateboarders, skaters and non-athletes take Heelys with ease and discover that heeling inspires a new set of skills. Using good judgement and the proper safety gear, riders can imprint their own styles whether heeling freestyle or racing competitively.
